How to delete an Instagram account

Often it’s a blessing, and sometimes it’s a curse. This is how Instagram can be defined. Facebook and Instagram addictions are becoming a serious problem, and if you think “10 Weeks of Therapy for Social Media Addiction is just another sales slogan, consider yourself lucky. Instagram, on the other hand, can be a good — if not great — a platform for growing a company. The question is how to get the two together. We know how to securely uninstall Instagram accounts, whether you want a fast digital detox or are serious about quitting Instagramming.

How to Permanently Delete an Instagram Account?

Make sure you’re ready for this life-changing decision before you take any action. Since you’ve decided to uninstall Instagram permanently, there’s no going back. You won’t be able to use the same username again, and Instagram won’t save your images, likes, or followers. All will be washed clean once and for all. Here’s how to bid farewell:

  • Using a web browser, go to the Delete Instagram Account tab. It doesn’t matter whether you use your phone or a computer; you must use a browser because you won’t be able to remove your account from the mobile app.
  • Explain why you want to delete the account on Instagram. In the drop-down menu, you’ll see a list of choices.

How to temporarily disable your Instagram?

Instagram is ready to vanish from your life for some amount of time if you aren’t ready to cut the cords just yet. You can choose when to reactivate it — or, if you want an Instagram-free life, temporarily deactivate it.

Since you can’t do this from the app, you’ll have to launch the journey in your browser:

  • Go to and log in to your account.
  • Select Edit Profile from the Account menu in the top right corner.
  • Select Temporarily disable my account from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page.
  • You’ll be questioned once more about why you’re going.

What if you are not able to re-activate your account?

But it’s been a long time since you’ve logged into Instagram. Without passing judgment, I’m sure you had a great time. There are a few options if you can’t remember your password:

  • To reset your password, go to the login page and tap Forgot Password. You can use your Facebook account, email address, or phone number.
  • Make sure your username does not include the @ symbol.
  • Check if you’ve received any notifications about your username changing, or view your account from someone else’s account to see if the username has changed.

How to make your Instagram account private?

  • Set your Instagram to private if you just want authorized followers to see what you’re sharing. Both your mobile app and your web browser allow you to configure your privacy settings.
  • Go to the account page in the Instagram app and press the menu button in the upper right corner.
  • Go to Account Privacy > Settings > Privacy > Account Privacy.
  • Accept the request to make your account private.
  • It’s worth noting that only personal accounts can be made private, so if you have a company account, you’ll need to move to personal accounts.

Maybe — just maybe — you don’t want particular people to see what you’re sharing, which is why you don’t want to use Instagram. You do not need to uninstall Instagram in this situation. It will be sufficient to restrict access to your account.
